Elder Care

Seniors must be cared for and supported as they age.

Caring for our elderly recognizes the contributions older adults have made throughout their lives and acknowledges their ongoing value to society. Mike and Sofia Segal Foundation supports organizations that care for our older population so they may age with grace and receive the necessary support to maintain independence for as long as possible. Every individual regardless of age has value.

An increase in the aging population of the United States has been a notable demographic trend due to factors such as increased life expectancy and the aging of the baby boomer generation. By 2030, the United States will experience a notable uptick in the percentage of individuals aged 65 and older, representing a higher proportion of the overall population. This shift has implications for healthcare, social services, and various aspects of public policy.
About 1,290,000 Americans currently reside in nursing homes, according to the 2020 U.S. Census. That number is expected to nearly double by 2050. Over 15,600 nursing home facilities are in operation, 69% of which are for-profit.
Funding for elder care is essential to address the complex needs of an aging population, ensuring that older individuals receive the support, services, and resources necessary to maintain a high quality of life. It also contributes to building a more compassionate and inclusive society that values and respects the contributions of older adults.
Mike and Sofia Segal Foundation is considering requests that add to the dignity of the aging population, both in their homes and under facility care, including new technology to improve care, and initiatives to keep older people in their homes for as long as possible.
